MGM’s musical biography about one of Tin Pan Alley’s legendary songwriting teams earned an Oscar nod for Best Score. When sidelined magician Bert Kalmar (Fred Astaire, who won a Golden Globe for his performance) meets aspiring baseball player Harry Ruby (Red Skelton), they start writing tunes together, embarking on a long roller-coaster partnership. The supporting cast includes Arlene Dahl, Keenan Wynn and Debbie Reynolds in her big-screen debut.
